Going All In on My Own Products

I lost my job. Instead of updating my CV, I decided to build.

Going All In on My Own Products

I didn’t plan any of this.

A few weeks ago, I found myself without a job. No dramatic exit, no “I quit” speech, nothing like that… just happened.

And instead of opening LinkedIn, updating the CV, doing the interview rounds… I made a different call. I’m going all in on my own products. And here we are.

Some Context

I’ ve been building software for over 15 years… Full-stack, QA Automation, engineering leadership… Walmart, IKEA, VTR, Claro, Falabella … Led Teams, shipped systems at scale … work for startups and create osom products … but none for me… every product i built is someone else’s brand, someone else’s vision … I’m not bitter about it, those years taught me everything i know… but I’ve been carryin this feeling for a long time - I want to build something mine -

If you’ve been reading this blog, you know i was already building products on the side - on weekends, after hours, stealing time from everywhere … so now there’s no more ‘side’. It’s the main thing.

Why Now

When I lost my job, i had 2 options :

  1. Jump back into the market. Interview rouns, prove myself to someone new, land something safe.

  2. Bet on myself. Ship the products I’ve been building. See if I can make this work.

I chose option 2. I have 3 products at different stages, and I have 15 years telling me i can build things that work.

Less planning, more execution - remeber? Well, this is me executing.

What I’m building

Three products, all at different stages:

Hikari (光) - A quotes app for iOS. Privacy-first, no tracking, no subscriptions, no ads. Just $4.99 once. It's in TestFlight right now... App Store this week. This is my first paid product ever going live. I'm nervous. But it's shipping.

Mushin (無心) - You already know this one. If you've been following along, you know the journey... the 30-day challenge, the security day, the invisible intelligence, the migration to Cloudflare + Railway. It's live at https://mushin.work Auth works, focus sessions work. What's missing: payments. That's literally this week's job — integrating Paddle so people can actually pay.

Chokin (貯金) - A finance app for kids. Parents assign chores, kids earn money, everyone learns. My 11-year-old daughter Flo is literally the target user... testing at home 😅. About 60% done.

Yes, the names are Japanese. We travel to Japan in 2024 and we fell in love with the country. The goal is to go back.

The Rules

I set some non-negotiables for myself. Same philosophy as always, but now with higher stakes:

  1. Nothing new until what exists is published and earning - I have a weakness for shiny new ideas (RIP ideas parking lot that keeps growing…) . Not anymore. Ship first, dream later.

  2. No garbage products. - No dark patterns, no trracking, no manipulation. If i wouldn’t use it myself, I won’t ship it. Hikari has zero tracking, zero analytics, zero servers. That’s not a feature…it’s a principle for the kind of app that it is.

  3. Ship fast, iterate later - Perfectionism has killed many of my projects, not anymore … I’m fighting myself here.

  4. Family First - Caro, Fran and Flo are not negotiable. I’ll sacrifice comfort, social life, assets. Not them… same as always … this doesn’t change.

What’s differente now ?

Before, I was building on weekends and free time. Now I have structure :

  • Deep work mornings and nights. Distribution midday. Gym twice a day (non-negotiable - it’s my anchor, you know this 😅)

  • Building in public for real - not just mushin anymore… everything. Metrics, revenue (even when it’s $0), decisions, mistakes.

  • Freelance as a bridge - I have one client that pays the inmediate bills while products grow. It goes away when products can sustain us.

Follow along

I’ll be sharing everything here. The wins, the failures, the real numbers. Same as Ive been doing with Mushin, but now with more products and time.

If you’re on a similar path, or thinking about it… let’s connect. This Journey is better when you’re not alone.

Let’s build 🚀

#life

If this resonated, let me know
